How familiar and encouraging are these verses? Effective parenting needs to be squarely based on these foundational scriptures. In these scriptures we can see the type of relationship we are to have with our children.
Along with Paul’s encouragement; “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord,” we see interactive parenting that represents involvement, care, thoughtfulness and leadership.
The old adage concerning children that “more is caught than taught” is certainly true. This means, then, that the life we live in front of our children as parents speaks more to our children than formal learning. Those non-verbals are what the children are attending to and not so much the words.
The Counseling Center of Northern Virginia takes seriously the importance of parenting and parenting well. The next generation will be the ones taking the Gospel to the world when we are no longer here. How we shape and mold the minds and hearts of our children then becomes one of our most significant responsibilities. We want to help parents learn how to parent and not just when things are tough. We want to help you develop strategies that will be natural and simply a part of every day life. |
